The Dome

The Dome

The Dome, (originally called the Millennium Dome and as of time of writing, the 02) was built for the millennium celebrations in the year 2000. Housed under the huge domed structure, the original exhibition ran from the 1st January 2000 to the 31st December of the same year. It wasn’t until June 2007 that the Dome was reopened to the public as we know it now, with the first concert by Bon Jovi. The current structure houses numerous restaurants and bars, a shopping mall, a cinema and bowling alley, trampoline park, music venues and of course the 02 arena itself.

Situated on a peninsular in North Greenwich the Domes architecture reflects the role of Greenwich Mean time. The 12 yellow support towers represent the 12 months of the year. The diameter of the circular structure is 365 meters and its height 52 meters. Representing both the days and weeks of the year.
